I would give 5 stars just to the queso!

But seriously - this place is great - always get my food quick which is good when you have just an hour for lunch. The Burrito with shredded beef is delicious and comes with rice and beans - pico de gallo and guacamole. I also tried the shrimp appetizer - not too spicy but very tasty!

    Howdy,

Thanks for the read first of all.

Staff and decor.... 5x5... very modern and inviting... Staff friendly, prompt, polite and happy.

Now the proverbial meat and potatoes....  read the reviews and as expected it's a mixed bag...  drop the raves and rants and you have what I honestly feel is an mid to upscale designed eatery with beautiful modern decor and in class, mid line food as well...

I had the Beef Burritos with chips, salsa and Caso Blanco with a bit of chorizo.

Salsa was a coocked variant from canned tomatoes but was tasty and free with meal.

Queso was tasty but very soupy and thin... it was warm when it arrived and Thickened slightly but remained very thin... like I said tastey.. just not my personal face on  consistancy.

Beef Burritos had yummy diced steak inside that had a subtle but tastey flavor and texture.  When o think of a Burrito I reflect to southwest style of a large flour tortilla stuffed and rolled... this offering wasn't that... however two smaller flour tortilla rolled open ended and topped with green salsa, cheese and served with a bit of lettuce, salsa fresca and a touch of guac with rice on the far side...

All said, it was a pleasing meal but not what I am accustomed to as mexican fare... doesnt mean it wasn't good nor does it mean it wasn't mexican... I only say this as encouragement for folks to get over themselves, realize they are not home, they are not in Kali, they are not in Texas.... you are in the DC Capitol Region and new, alternative and stylized offerings sing here.

Well done folks... I'd eat here again.

Not good. Since moving to DC from California, I've been on the hunt for good Mexican food. Out of the dozen places I've tried, this one was the worst. Here's why:

    1) Bland food. I got the three enchilada plate -- one beef, one chicken, one cheese. Cheese enchilada is just Velveeta. Chicken was pretty flavorless. Beef was just ok. Rice was flavorless, and so were the beans.

    2) Pricey. The bland food that I got was $14.99. I'm from California. For that price your food ought to be stellar. I make better Mexican food.

    3) It was hot inside. If you've got good food and drinks, I can stand a warm dining room. But if the food is mediocre, you've at least got to have a comfortable restaurant.

    4) Drinks did not impress. If you're a fan of Cuervo pre-made margaritas, go to Costco and buy it there. No reason to pay $6 for it at Casa Tequila.

A couple blocks away is Tequila and Taco. Do yourself a favor and go there. Went a couple of weeks ago for brunch. Much better than Casa Tequila.

This is Alexandria restaurant & bar serves authentic Mexican food and drinks. It has the look of an old diner with large windows wrapping around the bar but modern decor as a few large screen televisions. It's in a nice part of town a little off the popular strip but within walking distance.
The food is great. I was happy to find a place where I can get chili rellenos. Enjoy the queso with a cold beer and catch a Nats game on TV while you wait. Oh and if you want to brush up on your Spanish speaking you can do that too, the staff are friendly.

Came here for lunch with coworkers. They gave us chips and salsa and we ordered the  queso dip. Order it. Thank me later. I got the shrimp tacos. DELICIOUS. The tacos came with 2 sauces. One was kind of creamy. I loved that one. I have no clue what the other sauce was but it was too dang spicy for me. Tacos also came with beans and rice on the side. I'm not sure what others ordered but everyone seemed to enjoy their meals.

Parking garage directly across the street. $15 for less than 2 hours.
